Today is the last day of my junior year of college. I am officially done with finals, done with classes, done, done, done!

Tomorrow I leave for New York and another awesome opportunity! I am going to be a intern for another children's book literary agent! This time I'll be dealing with a different set of responsibilities. Literary agenting is very much an apprentice-type work environment, and now I will be learning about things like contracts, meetings, rights, editors, and all the rest. I'm very very excited!
Wish me luck!
Congratulations, and good luck! That sounds like such an exciting opportunity. Let us know how you get on x
ReplyDeleteI stumbled upon your blog this morning. The NY "thing" is exciting indeed. Nearly twenty years ago I walked the long, messy blocks of Manhattan with my portfolio in tow, thinking; I'll never move to NY. I've been living in NY for nearly ten years now. Never say never! Of course, this is after a long, exciting detour round the world, (seeing the worst and best of humanity as a photojournalist.)
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, To make a long story, longer: I see interns when I take part in orientation sessions, most are quiet and shy, some are introverted, but all eager to learn. Over the years I've heard from some interns who have successfully made the transition to professional life. Invariably, they are the ones who seemed most at ease, and fully engaged while interning. They were the self-starters who never waited to be told what to do, but who looked for ways to do things, to make things happen, and to take on responsibilities from the start, without fear of failure, and a never shy to question the "wisdom" of some of the elders.
Don't rely on luck, make things happen for yourself!
Cheers
