Today's Friday Fives from Paper Hangover are particularly awesome: What are your top five favorite first lines? First lines are super important. They set the tone of the rest of the book, set up tension, establish character, place, ect. And, most importantly they can make or break the sale of your book. (Also, for some reason I decided to illustrate all the covers of these books... poorly.)
1. First, enjoy this time! - Everything Matters! by Ron Currie, Jr.
2. I am dead, but it's not so bad. - Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion
3. Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aurelio Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice. - One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
4. I was seventeen years old when I saw my first dead body. - Where Things Come Back by John Corey Whaley
5. Our mother performed in starlight - Swamplandia! by Karen Russell
... wow, that took a shockingly long time....

Sadly, I am not familiar with any of these. But am most intrigued! And I am in love with the cover on that last one!
