Writing Not-Wednesday: Ouija

I like alliteration, and I like writing. In honor of both, every Wednesday (or not) I will post a new prompt and respond to it in 500 words or less. Post your links and stories in the comments!

Today's prompt comes from a website literally titled, Creative Writing Prompts.

Write a story beginning with the line "The clock winked."

I see this as more of a start to a longer story. Paranormal romance anyone?

The clock winked and then turned black. My sister's scream echoed down the halls as another flash of lightning tore across the sky, cutting our electricity for the third time that night. I rolled off my bed and pulled a large black flashlight out from under my bed. I flicked it on and off a few times, checking the batteries, and then pushed my way through the darkness to the basement stairs. The flashlight cut a large white circle out of the black, and made me think of those old videogames from the 90's - the ones where you have to get through the cave, but all you can see is like four steps in front of you, and some stupid bat keeps attacking you every time you take a step. Catch 'em all, my foot.

Our basement still hasn't been renovated yet like everyone else's in the whole entire world, so it's all dusty and full of cobwebs and old people stuff. Mom says it's romantic, and keeps wanting us to explore down there, but Ella is too scared and I really don't see what's so cool about moldy old baby clothes. Most people have cool stuff like x-boxes and tv's in their basement. We have cobwebs.

I pushed away a particularly large one on my way down the stairs and groped around to find the breaker box. Usually mom did this, but she was on a date with some guy she met at the E-Z Freeze and Ella's only seven. The sound of thunder followed by another scream came from above my head. Ella's running shook the dust loose from the ceiling and into my nose. I sneezed, dropping the flashlight, and sending up another cloud of dust.
I swore a bit under my breath and knelt down onto the floor. The flashlight had rolled under a table and as I reached for it it kept rolling further and further way. The circle of light traced a path under the table and landed on a large white box. The flashlight was out of my reach so I got up and pushed the table out of the way. I managed to wiggle the big table out of the way enough to grab the flashlight and the box, and stared at it for a few moments.

"Ouija," I read out load. I shrugged, stuffed the box under my arm and rotated to find the breaker. With a quick flip of the switch the power turned on, and I ran back up the stairs.

"Ella," I said. She was hiding behind the couch under a blanket. "Ella, come out. Look what I found!"
